Kavalry Productions Inc. is proud to announce a new collaboration to kick off 2023 with a bang. Fresh off of winning the Just For Laughs Stand Up and Pitch contest with their animated series Bhalla, Kavalry has joined forces with Catherine Winder (Invincible, The Angry Birds Movie 1&2, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and her multi-platform entertainment company Wind Sun Sky Entertainment to bring Bhalla, our original adult animated comedy series, into production.
“Bhalla is made up of a rich ensemble of diverse relatable, irreverent and funny characters ripe for animation," said Catherine. "We are excited to collaborate with the talented Kavalry team to bring Anish’s fresh point of view and unique South East Asian perspective to life in an original story world yet to be seen in the animated adult space.”
Wind Sun Sky Entertainment adapted and produced the Amazon Prime smash hit series Invincible and has just wrapped production on the first original animated commissioned comedy series Psi COPS for Adult Swim Canada.
“We’re so excited to work with the innovative storytellers behind Invincible, one of the best animated programs on television,” said Kavalry partner Matt Kelly. “They’re ideal partners to help us make a disruptive, funny and poignant series like Bhalla.”
Bhalla is about a basketball loving Indian teen living in a racially diverse suburb who struggles to hide his taboo hobbies from his overbearing, conservative family. The animated series is inspired by the life of co-creator Anish Bhalla who surprised television executives and comedians alike when he took the stage at Just For Laughs ComedyPRO and delivered a pitch presentation that wowed the audience winning their Stand Up and Pitch contest.
“I’m really happy that we’ve partnered with a Canadian production company who understands our vision,” said Anish. “Wind Sun Sky is the perfect fit for Bhalla and we’re excited to build this world with them.”
After winning at Just For Laughs in 2022, the Bhalla team plans to return to the festival again this summer to share updates on the series and meet with young comedians who might be able to help tell this uniquely Canadian story.
“Partnering with Wind Sun Sky is a huge win for this project and we can’t wait to show the world more of Bhalla,” said Kavalry partner Kyle Radke.
